The One Where Ross Got High

Thursday, 25 November 1999

Monica's parents come for Thanksgiving not knowing she lives with Chandler, and the college lie of Ross's that made them dislike him comes out along with everyone else's secrets while Rachel serves a beef trifle.

What happens

• Monica admits to Chandler that she has never told her parents they are dating because her parents dislike him, and Chandler decides to charm them into approving before they confess.
• Janine invites Joey and Ross to a Thanksgiving party with her dancer friends, and the two of them plan to eat quickly at Monica's and slip away.
• Rachel takes on an English trifle as the dessert, and Monica tells her she trusts her enough not to prepare a backup.
• Phoebe tells Rachel about a dream in which Jack Geller rescued her from a fire, and she now finds Monica's father attractive.
• Ross and Joey discover the pages of Rachel's recipe were stuck together and she has built half a trifle and half a shepherd's pie, and Ross talks Joey into saying nothing so they can still leave for the party.
• Judy assumes Chandler is stoned, and Ross privately confesses that in college he blamed his own marijuana on Chandler, which is why the Gellers have disliked him for years.
• Joey changes his mind and wants Rachel warned, so Ross instead agrees to coach everyone into pretending the dessert is good while he keeps Rachel out of the room.
• Rachel misreads Ross stalling her as an attempt to get back together and tells him she is not interested.
• Monica, Chandler and the Gellers each fake enjoyment and carry their servings out of the room to dump them, and Chandler tells Rachel a bird stole his off the balcony.
• Monica loses patience and announces Ross's pot smoking, the siblings expose each other's secrets including Monica and Chandler living together, and the Gellers end up thanking Chandler for putting up with both of them.
