The One With All the Poker

Thursday, 2 March 1995

Rachel hunts for a job and loses the one she wants at Saks, while the women learn poker to take on the men and Ross's feelings for Rachel drive him through three games.

What happens

• Rachel sends out job resumes and Ross spots a typo she has copied onto every one of them.
• The women learn the men have a regular poker game, object to being left out of it, and talk the men into teaching them.
• The women lose the first game, insist on paying up, demand a rematch, and Ross warns Rachel that he plays to win.
• Chandler and Joey tell Ross that his tough talk gave him away and that he is still in love with Rachel.
• Rachel opens her mail and finds she has an interview for an assistant buyer job at Saks Fifth Avenue.
• Monica brings in her Aunt Iris, a lifelong player, who coaches the women and opens by bluffing them about a car accident.
• Rachel reports that the interview went well and reveals she can shuffle expertly, but the women lose the second game anyway.
• In a third game at the apartment, Rachel beats Ross's flush with four sixes and starts a pile of the chips she has won from him.
• A call tells Rachel she did not get the Saks job, and she insists on playing on and raises the bet well past the agreed limit.
• Ross borrows money from Chandler and Joey to stay in the hand, loses to Rachel's full house, and takes the defeat happily because it cheers her up.
