The One With Barry and Mindy's Wedding

Thursday, 16 May 1996

Rachel goes to Barry and Mindy's wedding as maid of honour and survives public humiliation, Monica and Richard split over whether to have children, and Chandler's online romance turns out to be Janice.

What happens

• Joey learns Warren Beatty is directing the film he auditioned for, and that Beatty rated his kissing poorly.
• Chandler tells everyone he has spent the night talking online to a woman he likes enough to drop his defensive joking.
• Monica asks Richard whether children are in his future, and Richard says he does not want to raise another family at his age.
• Phoebe has Chandler ask his online woman about birth control, and the answer reveals that she is married.
• Rachel discovers that Barry's parents told the guests she abandoned the wedding because syphilis had driven her mad.
• Phoebe talks Chandler out of dropping the married woman and he decides to meet her in person.
• Ross stands up at the reception, announces himself as Rachel's boyfriend, and tells the room she left Barry because she did not love him.
• Rachel refuses to walk out, takes the microphone, and leads the room in the song she once fled from in school.
• Richard offers to have children for Monica's sake, and Monica turns him down because he only agreed out of obligation.
• Chandler's online woman arrives at Central Perk and is Janice, and Ross finally kisses Joey for practice after the audition has already been lost.
