The One With Ross's Tan

Thursday, 9 October 2003

Joey and Rachel try to sleep together on their first date and find that they cannot, Ross ruins himself with a spray tan, and Amanda's visit reveals that Phoebe once tried to drop Monica.

What happens

• Ross admires Monica's spray tan and takes the salon's card from her so he can get one himself.
• Phoebe proposes that she and Monica dodge Amanda's calls until she gives up, and Monica reluctantly agrees.
• Ross misunderstands the counting instructions, gets sprayed on the front three times over and none on the back, and ends up dark in front and pale behind.
• Amanda leaves another message, Chandler unwittingly hands Monica the phone, and Monica agrees to dinner because she cannot bring herself to refuse twice.
• Joey cannot get Rachel's bra open, blames the bra and then Rachel, and insists nothing deeper is stopping him.
• Rachel tells Monica and Chandler that the date went wrong, and Monica reminds her that her first kiss with Ross was awkward too, so Rachel decides she and Joey should push on.
• Amanda mentions that Phoebe was avoiding Monica back in 1992, and Monica learns that Phoebe once tried to cut her out.
• In the hallway Phoebe admits she found Monica controlling but could never keep her out, and the two make up.
• Ross goes to a second salon demanding four sprays on his back, faces the wrong set of nozzles and is sprayed in the face again.
• Chandler tells Joey and Rachel that sleeping with Monica felt right immediately, and Joey and Rachel quietly agree to stop trying and go to bed separately.
