The One Where Rachel's Sister Babysits

Thursday, 30 October 2003

Rachel's sister Amy moves in and pierces baby Emma's ears while babysitting, Joey writes Monica and Chandler's adoption recommendation letter, and Phoebe and Mike get engaged after two botched proposals.

What happens

• Amy tells Rachel she is engaged to Myron, the elderly father of her old boyfriend, mainly because of his Fifth Avenue apartment.
• At the Knicks game Phoebe dismisses a scoreboard proposal as tacky, and Mike walks off upset.
• Joey hands Monica and Chandler an adoption recommendation letter he has pushed through a thesaurus, and Monica tells him to drop the big words and write as himself.
• Amy leaves Myron and turns up with her bags to move in with Rachel and Joey.
• Phoebe tells the others that Mike had been planning that same proposal, and Monica suggests that Phoebe propose to him instead.
• With the nanny sick, Rachel lets Amy babysit Emma even though Ross objects to it.
• The agency tells Chandler they loved Joey's handwritten letter because they assume a child wrote it.
• Amy brings Emma back with the baby's ears pierced, and Rachel bans her from ever babysitting again.
• Phoebe proposes to Mike on the scoreboard at the game, and the crowd boos her for it.
• Rachel throws Amy out and then decides to accept her as she is, and Mike abandons his cake stunt to propose properly, which Phoebe accepts.
