The One With the Home Study

Thursday, 13 November 2003

Monica and Chandler pass their adoption home study after Joey talks his way out of having never called the social worker, while Phoebe gives her wedding fund to charity and then asks for it back.

What happens

• Phoebe decides to donate her entire wedding budget to charity and marry Mike at City Hall, and Mike loves her more for it.
• Rachel tells Ross that a childhood accident on a swing left her hair butchered and bans Emma from the playground, then agrees to go along and watch.
• Phoebe tries on Monica's veil, admits she wants a large wedding after all, and decides to ask the charity to return the money.
• The charity worker hands the check back while needling Phoebe about the children going without, and Phoebe storms out defending her right to one celebration.
• Laura recognizes the building as the home of a man who never called her after a date, and Monica and Chandler deny that Joey is any friend of theirs.
• Phoebe realizes she grew up with as little as the children she took the money from, and Mike agrees to return it.
• Joey turns the argument around until Laura accepts that she never gave him her number, and she tells Monica and Chandler they will make excellent parents.
• The charity worker refuses to take the check a second time and tells Phoebe and Mike to spend it on their wedding.
• Laura calls with a good report, putting Monica and Chandler on the adoption waiting list.
• Rachel fetches a spider for Ross to hold and rides the swing herself, then points out that the spider has crawled onto his neck.
