The One Where Joey Dates Rachel

Thursday, 10 January 2002

Joey takes a pregnant Rachel out on a date to cheer her up and afterwards finds he has feelings for her, while Ross struggles with a class across town and Phoebe's arcade gift takes over Monica and Chandler's living room.

What happens

• Phoebe gives Monica and Chandler a Ms. Pac-Man machine as a wedding present, and it is too heavy to move out of the living room.
• Rachel says she misses dressing up and going out, so Joey offers to take her on a date and she accepts.
• Ross learns that his new advanced class is on the other side of the city and arrives so late that the bell rings as he introduces himself.
• Over dinner Joey and Rachel compare the tricks they use on dates, and Joey is impressed that Rachel simply asks her date about his childhood.
• Chandler stays home all day and takes every score in the top ten under crude initials, and Monica tells him to wipe them before Ben visits.
• Rachel demonstrates her end-of-night move on Joey at the door, kisses him goodnight, and Joey is left rattled.
• Joey and Rachel both admit the date left them feeling strange, and Rachel decides the lobster was to blame.
• Joey is too distracted on his next date to follow the conversation, and the woman excuses herself from the table.
• Joey comes home early, sits with Rachel through Cujo, and holds her while she hides against him.
• Ross collapses in front of his class after running there, then makes the next lecture on time by wearing in-line skates.
