The One With the Red Sweater

Thursday, 4 October 2001

Chandler loses the wedding cameras and stages replacement photos at a stranger's wedding, while Phoebe wrongly pins Rachel's pregnancy on Tag before a red sweater reveals that Ross is the father.

What happens

• Monica is glum that the wedding is over, so Chandler promises to collect the disposable cameras from the tables and have them developed.
• Chandler discovers that Ross never took the cameras and that they are now missing from the hotel.
• Rachel confirms to Monica and Phoebe that she is pregnant, and she decides to tell the father that same day.
• Ross suggests that they put their tuxedos back on, buy new cameras, and fake the pictures at the next wedding in the same ballroom.
• Believing that Phoebe is the pregnant one, Joey proposes marriage to her, and Monica stops the engagement by revealing that Rachel is the one expecting.
• Joey produces a red sweater left behind by the man who spent a night with Rachel, and Phoebe decides that it identifies the father.
• Tag proves to own a different red sweater, and after asking Rachel to get back together, he leaves the moment she tells him about the baby.
• Joey offers to marry Rachel so that she will not raise the child alone, and Rachel turns him down.
• Chandler shows off the staged photographs, Monica reveals that she found the real cameras in a bag, and the couple trade his kiss with a stranger against her opening every present alone.
• Ross recognises the red sweater as his own, and Monica and Phoebe realise that he is the father.
