Thursday, 16 May 2002

Rachel labors for more than twenty hours and finally delivers a daughter, whom Monica names Emma, while Ross accepts his grandmother's engagement ring from his mother and keeps it hidden.

What happens

• Monica pretends she wants a baby to rattle Chandler, and the prank collapses when Chandler answers that he is genuinely ready.
• Ross's mother offers him his grandmother's engagement ring for Rachel, and Ross refuses to marry Rachel over the pregnancy but takes the ring anyway.
• Chandler tells Monica he wants a child because he trusts the two of them together, and they agree to start trying immediately in an empty hospital bed.
• Phoebe meets a patient named Cliff at the elevator and loses him before learning his room, so Joey poses as Dr. Drake Remoray to find the room and interrogate Cliff about his history.
• Janice turns up as Rachel's new roommate in labor, and Ross has to explain to her that he and Rachel are having the baby without being a couple.
• Cliff recognizes Joey from television, Phoebe admits she sent him in to vet Cliff, and Cliff agrees to start over with her.
• After twenty-one hours Rachel is finally taken to delivery, pushes out a breech baby girl, and leaves the hospital paperwork with no first name on it.
• Monica reveals she has saved the name Emma since she was fourteen, then hands it to Rachel when Rachel falls for it.
• Rachel raises the kiss they shared before the hospital, and Ross tells her it cannot happen again.
• Joey reaches under Ross's coat for tissues, finds the engagement ring, and Rachel sees it in his hand.
