The One Where Rachel Tells Ross

Thursday, 11 October 2001

Rachel tells Ross she is pregnant with his baby, Ross proposes marriage and she turns him down, while Monica and Chandler chase honeymoon perks and Joey and Phoebe cover up a broken door.

What happens

• Rachel announces that she is telling the father today, and the others reveal they have already worked out that it is Ross.
• Joey and Phoebe realise Monica and Chandler took both of their spare keys, so Joey phones the building manager and invents a gas leak to get inside.
• Ross tells Joey and Phoebe about the one night he spent with Rachel and decides she wants to restart the relationship.
• A fireman smashes the apartment door open for Mr. Treeger, and Joey and Phoebe are left with the wreckage.
• Ross sits Rachel down and lets her down gently before she can speak, and Rachel tells him she is pregnant, which leaves him silent and staring.
• Ross channels the shock into a furious complaint to the condom manufacturer, and Rachel slips out of the apartment while he is on hold.
• At the resort, Monica confronts the rival honeymooners who have been handed every perk ahead of them, and Chandler accepts the honeymoon suite the couple offers up.
• Joey phones Monica with a fresh gas-leak story and gets her to authorise breaking the door down, then fakes the noise with a chair.
• At the doctor's office Ross apologises, promises to be present for everything, and proposes marriage, which Rachel refuses because neither of them is in love.
• Rachel admits she lied about seeing the baby on the sonogram, and Ross points it out to her on the screen.
