The One With the Screamer

Thursday, 24 April 1997

Rachel dates a man who screams at strangers, and Ross is the only one who sees it, while Joey spends a night with his co-star Kate just before she leaves for a job in Los Angeles.

What happens

• Ross announces he is bringing a date from work to Joey's premiere, and Rachel instantly claims she is bringing someone too.
• At the theatre Rachel's date Tommy tears into a couple sitting in the wrong seats, then turns pleasant again, leaving Ross badly rattled.
• The director reads out the review, which mocks Kate's performance and his own direction, and he insults the cast and walks out.
• Kate tells Joey that the director dumped her over the review, admits she always picks the talented man over the kind one, and then passes out on him.
• Joey tells Monica that he and Kate talked until morning, and Monica convinces him that the two of them are now a couple.
• Ross warns Rachel to stop seeing Tommy, and Rachel and Chandler treat the warning as jealousy and mock him.
• Tommy corners Ross over a nearly spilled cup of coffee and screams at him where none of the others can see.
• Tommy loses his temper at the chick and the duck in front of everyone, and he ends things with Rachel on his way out.
• Kate tells Joey she will not stay in New York for him, and Joey says goodbye to her through his lines on stage.
• After two days on hold Phoebe finally gives in to the others, slams the phone down and breaks it.
