The One With the Ultimate Fighting Champion

Thursday, 8 May 1997

Monica breaks up with Pete when he refuses to quit ultimate fighting, Chandler asks his boss to stop slapping his backside, and Rachel regrets letting Phoebe set Ross up with Bonnie.

What happens

• Monica tells the group that Pete's big news is not a proposal but his decision to enter an ultimate fighting contest.
• Chandler's new boss Doug enjoys one of his jokes, welcomes him to the team, and slaps him on the backside.
• Phoebe asks Rachel for permission to set Ross up with her friend Bonnie, and Rachel agrees because she remembers Bonnie as bald.
• Rachel meets Bonnie, discovers she has grown her hair back, and accuses Phoebe of leaving that out.
• Pete loses his first fight badly and tells Monica he will not stop competing until he is the champion.
• Ross tells Phoebe that he liked Bonnie far more than he expected and has arranged a second date.
• Chandler finally tells Doug that the slapping makes him uncomfortable, and Doug respects him for raising it.
• Rachel spots Ross and Bonnie together and admits to Phoebe that she did not expect Ross to be happy again this quickly.
• Pete turns up in a body cast still refusing to quit, so Monica ends the relationship rather than watch him get hurt.
• Doug slaps every other man on the team and shakes Chandler's hand instead, and Chandler admits he wants the slap after all.
