The One After Ross Says Rachel

Thursday, 24 September 1998

Ross says Rachel's name during his vows, marries Emily anyway, and loses her before the reception ends, while Monica and Chandler keep sleeping together in London and Rachel ends up flying to Athens in Emily's place.

What happens

• Ross uses Rachel's name instead of Emily's during the vows, the minister starts the ceremony over, and Ross and Emily are married anyway.
• At the reception Emily shuts herself in a bathroom and tells Ross she hates him, and Ross pretends to the others that she is only fixing her makeup.
• Chandler and Monica agree that they will keep sleeping together for as long as they are in London and stop the moment they are home.
• Rachel mentions climbing out of a bathroom window at her own wedding, and Ross opens the door to find the window gone and Emily with it.
• Rachel tells Monica and Chandler she is certain the slip proves Ross still loves her, and they hurry her downstairs so they can be alone.
• Chandler and Monica sneak into the empty honeymoon suite, Ross walks in and decides to stay put until Emily finds him, and the two of them sit up with him all night.
• Emily's parents arrive to collect her things and say she is hiding from Ross, and Ross sends word that he will be at the airport, insisting in front of Rachel that she is only a friend.
• Back in New York Monica and Chandler thank each other for the one night and part, then Chandler comes straight back arguing that he is still on London time and they start kissing.
• At the London airport Rachel talks Ross into taking the honeymoon alone, and Ross then offers her the second ticket to Athens.
• Ross runs back for his jacket and finds Emily at the airport after all, and the plane pulls away with Rachel on board and Ross left behind.
