The One Where Ross Moves In

Thursday, 12 November 1998

Ross loses his sublet after the divorce and moves in with Chandler and Joey, who quickly plot to get him out, while Phoebe dates a health inspector and Rachel turns Danny's party into a power contest.

What happens

• Emily's cousin takes back the apartment Ross was subletting, and Joey and Chandler invite him to stay with them.
• Danny mentions his housewarming party in front of Rachel without inviting her, and Rachel decides that asking for an invitation would hand him the control.
• Phoebe's dinner date with Larry the health inspector ends early when he shuts the restaurant down over the violations he spots on the way past the kitchen.
• Danny comes by and invites both women, and Rachel turns him down by inventing a regatta gala she has to attend.
• Joey complains that Ross has taped over his Baywatch tape and pushed the foosball table out of the living room, and he and Chandler agree that Ross has to go.
• Chandler and Joey steer Ross toward a circled listing that is available immediately, and Ross puts in an application for the tiny studio even though its kitchen and bathroom are the same room.
• Phoebe asks Larry to stop being an inspector on their dates, and he lets Gunther off with a warning instead of a citation.
• The building manager calls for a reference and Chandler talks Ross out of the apartment by describing him as a tap-dancing pimp with a loud dog.
• Rachel sneaks downstairs in her coat so she can arrive at the party as though she is coming home from the gala, and Danny promptly tries to set her up with his friend Tom.
• Ross reports that his application failed and says he will stay with Phoebe, and Chandler and Joey talk him into staying with them instead.
