The One With Rachel's Inadvertent Kiss

Thursday, 18 March 1999

Rachel accidentally kisses her Ralph Lauren interviewer, then mistakes ink on her lip for a sexual advance and accuses him, before talking her way into the job anyway.

What happens

• Rachel tells the others she has an interview at Ralph Lauren to coordinate the women's collection.
• Joey flirts through the window with a woman in Ross's building, counts the floors, and knocks on Ross's door instead of hers.
• Phoebe describes how physical she and Gary are, and Monica insists she and Chandler are just as passionate.
• Rachel admits she kissed the interviewer goodbye by mistake, and Monica arrives with news of a second interview.
• At the second interview Rachel reads Mr. Zelner's pointing as a demand for sex, refuses him and walks out.
• Back home, Ross tells Rachel she has ink on her lip, and she understands what Mr. Zelner was doing.
• Ross meets Jen in the lobby, apologises for nothing, and she agrees to go for coffee with him.
• Monica shows Joey he has been counting the lobby and stairway windows, and when Joey finds the right door Ross opens it, there for his date with Jen.
• Rachel returns to apologise, argues her own case, and Mr. Zelner hires her.
• Monica admits she is sad the early phase is over, and Chandler tells her he prefers the relationship they have now.
