The One Where Ross Can't Flirt

Thursday, 22 April 1999

Ross tries to charm the pizza delivery girl and ends up lecturing her about gas, Joey hides from his grandmother that Law & Order cut him, and Rachel loses one of Monica's earrings.

What happens

• Chandler, dressed for his ten-month anniversary dinner with Monica, jokes around with Caitlin the pizza delivery girl at the door.
• Ross accuses Chandler of flirting and admits that he wants Caitlin for himself.
• Phoebe discovers that the earrings Monica wants for the evening are the ones Rachel borrowed and lost half of.
• Monica says she flirts constantly and means nothing by it, which unsettles Chandler, while Rachel tells Ross he was never any good at flirting, so Ross orders another pizza to prove otherwise.
• Joey sees that the show cut him down to a body in a bag, and makes everyone keep smiling so his grandmother will not realise.
• Joey slips out of the apartment mid-commercial, leaving Chandler to entertain his grandmother.
• Phoebe takes the blame for the earring and Monica forgives her warmly, then Rachel confesses and Monica turns on her.
• Ross greets Caitlin and talks at her about gas until she abandons the payment and flees.
• Rachel catches Caitlin on the street, explains that Ross is nervous rather than strange, and comes back upstairs with her phone number.
• Joey distracts his grandmother, swaps in a tape of an old scene of his, and passes it off as the episode.
• Monica hunts for a matching replacement earring with Rachel and Phoebe, and Chandler admires the pair she wears without noticing.
