The One Where Rosita Dies

Thursday, 1 February 2001

Rachel breaks Joey's favourite chair and Chandler secretly swaps his own in, the Gellers sell the family house after ruining Monica's childhood boxes, and Phoebe's first telemarketing call reaches a man planning to kill himself.

What happens

• Rachel snaps the back off Joey's chair while trying to move it, then talks him into going out for a replacement.
• Monica shows Ross a property listing and they realise their parents are selling the house they grew up in without telling them.
• Ross suggests telemarketing to a broke Phoebe, and she takes a job selling toner without knowing what toner is.
• Chandler sits on the broken chair, assumes he wrecked it, and quietly swaps in his own barcalounger.
• At the garage, Mr. Geller admits he used Monica's boxes to stop flood water reaching his Porsche, ruining everything inside them.
• Phoebe's cold call reaches Earl, who tells her he is going to kill himself because nobody at his office knows he exists.
• Joey finds the chair whole again, declares it a miracle, and orders Rachel out of it when she doubts him.
• Ross and his father pack Ross's old belongings into fresh boxes and pass them off as Monica's memories.
• Monica recognises her brother's things among the fakes, learns her boxes were sacrificed for the car, and storms out.
• Rachel and Chandler compare stories, the chair swap comes out, and Rachel claims the expensive new recliner for herself.
• Phoebe turns up at Earl's office in person and argues him out of suicide by insisting the universe cares about him.
• Mr. Geller hands Monica the keys to his Porsche as an apology, leaving Ross with nothing.
