The One With Chandler's Dad

Thursday, 10 May 2001

Monica takes Chandler to Las Vegas to face his drag-performer father and invite him to the wedding, while Rachel talks her way into driving Monica's Porsche and Joey tries on women's underwear.

What happens

• Rachel learns that Monica has let Ross, Joey and Phoebe drive the Porsche while lying to her about it, and Monica says the real reason is that Rachel is a terrible driver.
• Monica notices no reply from Chandler's father and Chandler admits he never sent an invitation, because he has not seen the man in years and does not want a drag performer at the wedding.
• Rachel refuses to hand over the keys and starts the car, so Ross climbs into the back seat rather than let her drive off alone.
• Joey introduces himself properly to Phoebe's boyfriend Jake and invites him to a basketball game, then sees that Jake is wearing women's underwear.
• Monica packs suitcases for Vegas and tells Chandler he will regret it forever if his father misses the wedding, and Chandler agrees to go for her sake.
• Phoebe tells Joey that the underwear was her dare and that she is wearing Jake's, then says only a man secure in himself could do it and that Joey could not.
• Rachel reveals that her licence has expired, a trooper pulls the Porsche over, and she flirts her way to a warning that leaves Ross driving.
• Chandler admits to Monica that his father has written, called and visited for years and that he has refused him every time, just as his father takes the stage as Helena Handbasket.
• Joey shows Phoebe that he is wearing a pair of Rachel's panties and admits he likes the silk and the choices.
• Chandler tells his father from the audience that he and Monica are engaged and asks him to come to the wedding, then thanks Monica for pushing him into the trip.
