The One With Rachel's Book

Thursday, 12 October 2000

Monica's parents admit they spent her wedding fund on a beach house, so Chandler's savings become the only budget, while Joey finds Rachel's erotic novel and Phoebe moves in with Ross.

What happens

• Monica shows off her engagement ring and hauls out the wedding planning binder she has kept since the fourth grade.
• Phoebe interrupts one of Ross's lectures with an emergency that turns out to be a request to move in with him for a few days.
• Ross comes home to a naked stranger on a massage table and tells Phoebe she cannot see clients in his apartment.
• A woman drops her elderly father off for his appointment, and Ross tells her he is a masseur because he finds her attractive.
• Over dinner, Jack and Judy tell Monica that her wedding fund paid for the beach house years ago.
• Chandler writes down how much he has saved, Monica wants all of it spent on the wedding, and Chandler refuses.
• Phoebe confronts Ross for massaging her client with kitchen utensils and losing her the business, and Ross apologises.
• Chandler changes his mind and offers the whole sum, then describes the house and children he had been saving for, and Monica decides she would rather have that than the wedding.
• Rachel stops Joey's teasing by aggressively coming on to him until he is frightened.
