Thursday, 17 May 2001

Chandler panics the day before his wedding and disappears, Ross and Phoebe hunt him down, Joey is stranded on a film set, and Phoebe finds a positive pregnancy test in Monica's bathroom bin.

What happens

• Ross warns Chandler, speaking as Monica's older brother rather than as his friend, that he will come after him if he ever makes her unhappy.
• Joey learns he has been given the World War I movie role he was turned down for, and shooting starts that same day.
• Joey's co-star Richard Crosby sprays him with spit on every take, and Joey covers for him by telling the director that the face-wiping is a character choice.
• Ross finds a note in which Chandler apologises to Monica, and the friends agree to search for him while keeping Monica in the dark.
• Phoebe pulls a positive pregnancy test out of the bathroom bin and concludes that Monica is pregnant, and Rachel swears her to secrecy.
• Ross and Phoebe track Chandler down at his office, where he admits he is afraid of becoming his parents, and Ross persuades him to come back one small step at a time.
• Richard arrives on set drunk, the director refuses to release Joey until the scene is finished, and Joey misses the start of the wedding.
• Rachel talks a Greek Orthodox priest from another wedding at the hotel into standing in as minister.
• Chandler slips away again but returns calm, explaining that he overheard the friends discussing the pregnancy and bought a baby outfit for Monica.
• Joey turns up in costume and marries them, and when Chandler tells Monica he knows about the baby she says she never took the test.
