The One With the Boob Job

Phoebe and Mike agree to move in together but split when Mike rules out ever marrying again, while Monica and Chandler each secretly borrow two thousand dollars from Joey and Chandler concludes Monica wants breast surgery.

What happens

• Monica and Chandler discover their savings are draining because his internship pays nothing, and Chandler refuses to borrow from her parents out of family pride.
• Mike tells Phoebe he hates going back to his own place and asks her to move in with him, and Phoebe agrees on the spot.
• Monica asks Joey for two thousand dollars behind Chandler's back, and Joey writes her the cheque.
• Rachel arrives with supplies to baby-proof Joey's apartment for Emma and insists on installing everything herself, while Joey and Monica tell her she cannot.
• Phoebe realises out loud that she wants a wedding, a house near good schools and children with Mike, and Mike goes quiet at the idea.
• Chandler asks Joey for the same two thousand dollars, spots the cheque already written to Monica, and Joey tells him she is buying herself a breast enlargement.
• Mike warns Phoebe that living together will never lead to marriage because his first one ruined the idea for him, and Phoebe hides how much that hurts by claiming she never wanted to marry either.
• Rachel gives up and pays a handyman to fit the baby-proofing instead.
• Chandler smothers Monica in compliments about her body and begs her not to get any bigger, and Monica decides he is panicking about pregnancy changing her.
• The friends confront Joey and the surgery misunderstanding collapses, leaving Joey four thousand dollars down for nothing.
• Phoebe admits she does want to marry someday, and she and Mike end the relationship in front of everyone mid-move.
