The One With the Male Nanny

Thursday, 7 November 2002

Ross and Rachel hire a male nanny named Sandy, and Ross fires him for being too sensitive, while Phoebe kisses a returning ex and Chandler discovers that Monica finds a co-worker funnier than him.

What happens

• Monica phones Chandler in Tulsa to rave about her new kitchen and calls her maitre d' Geoffrey the funniest man she has ever met.
• Mike gives Phoebe a key to his apartment and Phoebe hands him one of hers in return.
• A string of bad nanny interviews leaves Ross and Rachel with one candidate left, and Sandy turns out to be a man.
• David turns up at Phoebe's door on a short trip from Minsk, and when he asks whether she is seeing anyone, Phoebe says she is not.
• Sandy wins Rachel over with his qualifications and his care for Emma, and Rachel hires him despite Ross calling the whole idea strange.
• Phoebe admits to David that she is with Mike, David says goodbye, and the two of them end up kissing anyway.
• Mike lets himself in with his new key and catches Phoebe with David.
• Joey tells Monica that Chandler is jealous of Geoffrey, and Chandler works out that the laughter he has been getting is pity.
• David goes back to Minsk after squaring off with Mike, and Phoebe promises Mike it will not happen again, so Mike keeps her key.
• Ross fires Sandy, admits that the problem is his own discomfort with sensitive men, and then cries about his father while Sandy comforts him.
