The One With the Pediatrician

Chandler is transferred to Tulsa and Monica plans to move with him until a Manhattan job offer changes her mind, while Rachel hunts for a new pediatrician and Joey passes a stranger off as an old friend.

What happens

• Chandler tells the group his company is relocating him to Tulsa for as long as a year, and Monica assumes she has to go with him.
• Chandler arranges to commute so Monica can keep her job in New York, but Monica refuses to live apart from him and decides to move.
• Rachel's call to the pediatrician at three in the morning gets her and Ross dropped as patients, leaving them without a doctor for Emma.
• Joey has forgotten the double date Phoebe arranged, so he recruits a stranger named Mike in the coffee house to pose as an old friend at dinner.
• A restaurant head-hunter tells Monica about a job in Manhattan, and Monica accepts it on the spot.
• Rachel takes Emma to Ross's childhood doctor and finds Ross himself walking out of the office as a patient.
• Mary Ellen recognises Joey from his soap, the invented friendship collapses under Phoebe's questions, and Phoebe leaves humiliated.
• Monica admits she wants the Manhattan job instead of Tulsa, and Chandler tells her to take it.
• Mike tracks Phoebe down, apologises, proves he really is a pianist, and asks her out, and Phoebe says yes.
• Chandler says goodbye to everyone and flies to Tulsa alone, with Monica staying behind for the new job.
