The One With the Memorial Service

Thursday, 13 March 2003

Ross and Chandler escalate an alumni-website prank war until Chandler posts that Ross has died, and Ross responds by staging a memorial service for himself to find out whether anyone cares.

What happens

• Ross shows off his college alumni website, and while he fetches his coat Chandler writes a fake post about Ross sleeping with a cloned dinosaur, which Joey then sends.
• Phoebe, miserable after ending things with Mike, asks Monica to physically stop her from contacting him.
• Ross retaliates by creating an alumni page for Chandler that announces he is gay.
• Chandler answers by posting that Ross was killed by a blimp, and Ross threatens to make faked photographs of Chandler.
• Joey buys an identical replacement penguin so he can keep the original Hugsy, but Emma rejects the new one.
• Phoebe secretly phones Mike and he turns up, so Monica plants herself on the couch between them as their chaperone.
• Ross discovers that nobody responded to news of his death, and he announces a memorial service that Chandler will be hosting.
• Rachel explains that Emma loves the penguin because it reminds her of Joey, and Joey hands Hugsy over before immediately taking him back.
• Mike tells Phoebe he wants one more night with her, and Monica abandons her post and urges Phoebe to kiss him.
• Kori Weston arrives at the memorial and admits she once wanted to ask Ross out, so Ross reveals he is alive and she storms off calling him a freak.
